Quick Draw 1

November in the North

I did this a few years ago (still hand-lettered...), as an exercise in repetition. The motif of the staircase accounts for 50% of all the panels, but the way the reader feels about the image ought to change as the strip progresses, if I've done my job right.

I never got round to colouring the final panel. Given that it's about the shakiness of the narrator's memories slipping away, I've decided to leave it like that.

Objectivity

Messing with the basic "one page wonder" format, by telling two distinct life stories over two pages, but intertwining them. Mercalli & Richter independently came up with scales for measuring earthquake intensity. Richter's is the better known in common parlance, and more objective, but both have since been superseded.

The strip was originally commissioned for a disaster relief fundraiser anthology, although I don't think it ever got released...
